This is the first book monograph presenting a view into the print work of Jan Měřička, especially his famous studies following the patterns of movement of human crowds in modern civilization. As an artist, he employs etching and screen printing techniques in a distinct way to show how the individual moments of everyday life situations can ultimately end up resembling natural elements, usually in a disturbing or even threatening way. Měřička, also known as the creator of spatial installations and artistic books, has won many awards for graphic art, including the 2000 Vladimír Boudník Award. The texts for this monograph were written by Eva Bendová and Jaromír Typlt, and it also includes interviews with the artist, and above all, his own comments on the individual series of works.
Czech Photography of the 20th Century, published simultaneously in Czech and English versions, is the first book to present the main trends, figures, and works of Czech photography from the beginning to the end of the last century to such a large extent. Its 517 plates include not only the most important, well-known photographs and photomontages, but also works that have long been forgotten or are published for the first time. The book is arranged in seventeen chapters, supplemented with chronologies of the most important events in twentieth-century Czech photography and history.
