Czech artist Jiří Příhoda, who lives and works in Austin, Texas, creates monumental installations and architectural interventions that interact with the specific locality while also exploring how people can live meaningful lives in today’s complicated world. The main focus of his recent work has been the creation of alternative dwellings intended for contemplation and individual isolation. These minimal, architecturally pure spaces feel like residential sculptures. In his work, Příhoda makes frequent use of new technologies and materials. He also takes an active interest in graphic design and exhibition architecture.
This beautiful two-volume publication offers a comprehensive overview of Příhoda’s impressive and original work: Volume one presents 25 sculptural and volume two 25 architectural works. The books are available together in a special box set.
The art of Jiří Příhoda, one of the most distinctive Czech artists working today, can be found in his native Czech Republic as well as in South Korea (Busan), China (Beijing), and the United States (Austin, Tucson).
Czech Photography of the 20th Century, published simultaneously in Czech and English versions, is the first book to present the main trends, figures, and works of Czech photography from the beginning to the end of the last century to such a large extent. Its 517 plates include not only the most important, well-known photographs and photomontages, but also works that have long been forgotten or are published for the first time. The book is arranged in seventeen chapters, supplemented with chronologies of the most important events in twentieth-century Czech photography and history.
